Course Introduction
Competency Based Emergency Training
We are in a world where we are increasingly being asked to demonstrate our competence and duty of care to employees, contractors and members of the public alike, especially when accidents happen. For those organisations that operate with any form of emergency response team you are at greater risk.
As you ask employees to potentially diffuse or mitigate an incident on site, you are putting those people at greater risk. Administering training to your teams is all well and good, however:
- Is the training designed with the documented specific outcomes required for an emergency team?
- Are training programmes executed and documented with the specific hazards your site contains?
- Can you emergency responders demonstrate written and practical evidence of competence in their role?
With this in mind Safety Management (UK) has designed specific emergency competencies for the commercial emergency / fire team responders. We are aware that time and costs are an issue in this area, and have designed the competencies so they can be tailored specifically to your own organisation.
The competencies available to emergency team members are both flexible and capable of being developed around the specific risks, hazards and needs of the responders.
As emergency responders look to continue their practical development, not only at firefighter level, they can also advance their skills and knowledge with team leader competencies.
Once implemented, the competency based training package can be delivered internally, assuming you have the necessary skills, and only requires periodic external verification. Allowing you the autonomy to train your emergency response team to a recognised, documented standard without the additional costs of using outside consultants.
Existing Skills
Safety Management (UK) recognise that very few firefighters and team leaders will be starting from the beginning, so whether it is first aid, risk assessment or communications, credit of competence can be applied for prior learning and training.
