Amatoya - Firefighter of the Future
Futuristic firefighting buggy with water cannons
If the fire brigade is ever struggling to attract new recruits, perhaps it might want to put a picture of this Amatoya concept on its recruitment poster. It'll easily be the most effective campaign since Uncle Sam's 'I Want YOU' was deployed during the two World Wars.
In the ambitious Ford Amatoya concept, designer Liam Donaldson has created a firefighter of the future, which he describes as "the best frontline defence during… an emergency".
Massive suspension travel and ground clearance allow the Amatoya to reach remote hotspots, with thermo-ceramic intumescent paint protecting its occupants from the heat of the action. The guns on the roof can fire 2,200 litres of water stored in onboard tanks, while power comes from a 7.2 litre diesel engine.
What makes the Amatoya truly great is that the crew can tackle the fire from the safety of the vehicle's cabin, rather than having to put their lives on the line by using the traditional method of exiting the vehicle in order to point the hose at the blaze.
