Course Introduction
Advanced Firefighter
Firefighting is one of the most safety critical areas within the oil, gas and chemical industry. The ability to control and contain a small emergency situation in its early stages is paramount, failure to do so effectively will result in more serious financial losses, potential business interruption and ultimately the potential injury to life. Providing competent firefighters with effective industry based training is essential.
Who should attend?
This course is essential to all personnel who are expected to respond in some capacity to an emergency situation on site.
As a four day training programme will involve a combination of formal lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, practical assessments and written exercises.
Attendees are not required to have any practical experience of firefighting or dealing with emergency incidents.
Programme Objectives
Participants attending the programme will:
- Demonstrate through exercise the correct selection and use of firefighting equipment.
- State the principles to be applied to maintain adequate incident scene safety.
- Demonstrate the practical application of dynamic risk assessment applicable to the oil and gas industry.
- Demonstrate the practical assembly, standard testing, donning/doffing of a breathing apparatus set.
- Demonstrate safe movement and casualty recovery whilst wearing Breathing apparatus in a risk area.
- List the principles of command and control at an incident.
- Apply effective command and control procedures through practical exercise
- Demonstrate effective communications during an emergency situation.
- State the effective means of applying firefighting foam in the oil and gas industry.
- Demonstrate effective use of foam concentrate and foam making equipment.
Programme Summary
This intensive, and highly practical programme will provide attendees with the required knowledge, skills and practical experience to select and used their safety critical equipment effectively, define safe working practices and operate as a coordinated, cohesive and competent emergency response team.
It will raise both individual and team performances to ensure that firefighters are as well trained, competent and prepared for any potential on site incident or emergency.
Course Outline
Day 1
- Introduction, programme aims and objectives.
- Fire hose, fire branches and hose ancillary equipment, handling and practical application
- Fire pump theory and practical exercises.
- Incident scene safety.
Day 2
- Dynamic Risk Assessment
- Introduction to breathing apparatus set and cylinder familiarization.
- Breathing apparatus exercise - fresh air walk.
- Breathing apparatus Control procedures & practical exercise
Day 3
- Incident command and control procedures
- Incident command practical exercise
- Communications during an emergency situation
- Search and rescue procedures and practical exercise
Day 4
- Use of firefighting foam at oil instillations
- Practical firefighting foam expenses
- End of programme practical assessment exercise
- Written confirmation exercise
